Roberta Robertson Poetry Art Contest
Roberta Robertson was a poet from Lead, SD whose work was published for many years during the 1920’s & 30’s in various newspapers such as the Lead Daily Call, Rapid City Journal, Sioux Falls Argus Leader, Sioux City Journal, Omaha World Herald, Chicago Tribune and Denver Post.
The Lead Historic Preservation Commission’s 2025 “Hidden Treasure Heritage Festival” will have a theme of “Women Who Lead” to recognize the many women from Lead who made significant contributions to the world. And, one of those women Lead's Historic Preservation Commission would like to recognize is, Roberta Robertson, who writings left a legacy of beauty.
Over 100 of Roberta’s poems are available below (starting on page 4). The Arts Center would like to invite local artists to choose one her writings and create an art piece inspired by that poem. All art media is welcome from paintings, drawings, music, sculptures, wood working, glass, etc. There will be a $100 prize for first place, $75 for second and $50 for third.
If you would like to participate, please give the Arts Center a call at 605-584-1461 or email at [email protected]. Entries need to be delivered to the Arts Center no later than June 20. An open house will be held on Thursday, June 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. and the art will remain on display until August 1.
