Welcome to the Arts in Lead and Deadwood!
In 2024, The Lead Deadwood Arts Center (LDAC) will celebrate its 33rd year of bringing quality arts programming to the Lead and Deadwood area. Established in 1990, the Lead Deadwood Arts Center evolved from a small group of enthusiastic organizers into a member driven, nonprofit 501(c)3 agency supporting artistic efforts throughout the communities of Lead and Deadwood.
The LDAC is managed by an Executive Director and a volunteer Board of approximately 10 individuals who are proud of the accomplishments and success LDAC has achieved in the past 3r years.
Today, the LDAC also operates a beautiful art gallery and gift shop which is located in the mercantile portion of the Historic Homestake Opera House. LDAC also provides quality, custom framing with the largest frame selection in the area.
The LDAC makes life in Lead Deadwood a little more fun with its programming including: community art projects, LEGO contest for kids, exhibits, classes, art contests, free craft projects for kids, culinary events, etc.
In the last years, LDAC receives on-going operating funds by grants from the South Dakota Arts Council (support is provided with funds from the State of South Dakota, through the Department of Tourism and State Development, and the National Endowment for the Arts), Adams-Mastrovich Family Foundation and the City of Lead. Additional support is funded thru the Wharf Goldcorp Prosperity Fund, Walter and Frances Green Fund, Lead Deadwood Community Fund, City of Deadwood, memberships and fundraisers.
The arts do so much for our community because:
The mission of the Lead Deadwood Arts Center is to "promote educational and cultural activities through the arts!"

The arts do so much for our community because:
- Children learn better. Arts education programs in most of our schools help students acquire knowledge in a variety of effective ways, using the arts to teach other core curricula subject.
- Arts performances bring people to town. Whether its an annual festival or a holiday musical, people turn out to see and hear arts activities - and those people spend money while they are in town.
- Community pride is boosted. Dying towns have no arts opportunities. Thriving towns have lots of them. Communities which sponsor the arts have something to brag about - and something to grow each year.
- Economic development is served. Business and families who work in them don't come to a state or community with no leisure activities, no recreational programs and no quality of life. The arts are the basis of so much that we do outside of our work life. When we support the arts, we support a stronger economic base for the community.
The mission of the Lead Deadwood Arts Center is to "promote educational and cultural activities through the arts!"
